Whats the name of this movie about glowing green light underground?

I only remember bits and pieces but the beginning has 2 boys playing baseball and one runs to get the ball and sees a green light underground. he touches it and disappears. everyone in the town is looking for the boy and everyone else who disappeared and in the end they go underground and find all the humans in green glowing incubator tube things (like what you think of when you hear america preserving aliens in tubes) please help! i think it came out in like the late 70s or early 80s. any ideas?
