How to keep cell samples alive?

Usually they need to be in an incubator and kept at the same temperature that they were at when inside the organism. Yes, they need food (nutrients). Usually a nutrient broth or medium is required. Most cells (unless they are an immortal cell line) cannot survive for long outside the organism without some sort of stimulus (like LPS).
